Piano Humidity Control | Rust

High relative humidity can lead to rust in a piano. Just moving a piano from a cold environment to a warm environment creates condensation, which will cause swelling of wood, felt, cloth, glue, leather, and rust metal parts. Rust breaks down the strength of steel, tuning pins, bridges, harp, and other metal parts. Each string has around 198 lbs of tension. If the strings weaken, they fall out of tune faster and will eventually break over time. Restringing a piano and/or replacing tuning pins is an expensive restoration and unnecessary if preventative measures are taken.
